Description
A great opportunity has arisen within the Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology (DHM) Molecular Genetics Department for an experienced Senior Scientist with expertise in molecular genetics and tumour testing. Molecular genetics is a critical component of the future of DHM, a part of the Sonic Healthcare medical diagnostic companies.
DHM runs a busy and fully NATA-accredited diagnostic genetics department specialising in genetic testing for disease diagnosis and susceptibility, preconception screening, non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), relationship testing and pharmacogenetics. The successful applicant will join a large team of experienced scientists, senior scientists and genetic pathologists. Established techniques include DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, fragment analysis, MLPA, droplet digital PCR and NGS. A full-time position has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Scientist to lead the development of somatic genetic testing of tumour tissues.
Applicants must hold a recognised degree in Science or Medical Science with at least 10 years’ laboratory experience in DNA testing techniques. Postgraduate qualifications, experience in medical genetic diagnostics, and tumour tissue DNA testing are essential. The successful applicant will have experience supervising junior scientists, will be self-motivated, flexible and have in-depth knowledge of genetic theory and genetic techniques.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced and talented Senior Scientist to lead the development of somatic genetic testing in a rapidly expanding medical genetics laboratory.
