Title: Medical Office Assistant II


Location: Washington, DC

Provides a variety of medical office support and clerical duties for one or more medical, professional, or research staff. The Incumbent may perform all, or a combination of these duties, depending upon their assigned work area and the specific needs of the department.

Completes preliminary registration for new patients and updates information on existing patients. Obtains necessary recertification/verification/ referrals, signatures, copies of insurance cards, etc.

Responds to billing related inquires from patients and/or Patient Billing Services. Accepts co-payments; may deposit payments or forward them to appropriate personnel.

Schedules appointments, coordinates physician calendars.

Transcribes dictation, types letters, requisitions, reports, etc. from handwritten copy or notes.

Answers requests for new prescriptions and refills; submits requests to physician for authorization. Calls in prescriptions to pharmacy.

Establishes and maintains files, records, logs, and charts, including all departmental files.
Maintains office supplies and medical supply inventory for the department.

Compile information for schedules, posting and distributing to appropriate personnel.


High school degree or GED diploma is required

Minimum of one (1) year experience as a secretary required, preferably in a doctor’s office or medical environment.
