Title: Medical Coder

CGS is seeking a coding specialist with data entry experience; medical coding experience preferred, to join our legal services team. The position is part of a team supporting global clients who have experienced a data breach. The position’s core responsibilities are identifying PII, PHI, and sensitive data, linking each breached data element to each unique person in the dataset, de-duplicating the data elements and data owners, and creating a notification list in Excel. This role requires extreme attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
Responsibilities:
Follow coding conventions
Ensure codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
Assign codes for PII, PHI, and other sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PCI, DSS, NPP guidelines and policies
Immediate follow-up and clarification for any unclear instructions
Review structured and unstructured data in a database quickly and accurately
Superb time management skills as all assignments are project-based and have short and exact deadlines in alignment with federal, state, and foreign government notification mandates
Review of information that may be exported from a patient database and coding it into a document management system
Implementing strategic procedures and choosing strategies and evaluation methods that provide correct results
Review and verify documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results and code them for PHI accordingly
Identify diagnostic and procedural information (PHI) and code appropriately
Audit PHI documentation and coded data to validate documentation that supports services for reporting purposes.
Identify discrepancies, potential quality of document entry, and makes necessary changes
Research, analyze, recommend, and facilitate a plan to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors in alignment with supervisory and audit staff
Identify reportable elements, complications, and other procedures
Assists audit lead in orientation, training, and mentoring of staff as needed
Provide ongoing training to staff as needed
Support special projects as needed
